Alcantara® Now Available in U.S. Autos
"Big Three" Manufacturers to Offer Luxurious Material
for First Time in Select Models
NEW YORK —October 17, 2006— One of the automobile
industry’s most luxurious brands is making its way stateside. For the first
time, Alcantara®, the interior material of choice for virtually all of the
world's leading auto makers, will soon be available in American cars and SUVs
from DaimlerChrysler, Ford and General Motors. Alcantara® is a one-of-a-kind
upholstery material that has long been the premiere choice of discerning auto
aficionados.
Today’s most renowned European and Japanese luxury vehicles
including Lexus, Mercedes-Benz, Porsche, BMW and Audi—just to name a
few—use Alcantara® as a fundamental component in their stunningly
modern yet functional interior design. The introduction of Alcantara® in
the U.S. means its name will not only be synonymous with those notable brands
but will also become more familiar with owners of luxury and sports versions
of Chrysler, Cadillac and Mercury automobiles, among others.
“For decades, Alcantara® has been a household name
in the luxury automotive market, particularly with the top European manufacturers,” said
Derick C. Fronda, Executive Director of Toray Ultrasuede America, Inc. “We
are extremely excited to now bring Alcantara®, and its cutting-edge technology,
elegance and performance, to the United States via its largest and most respected
auto companies."
Alcantara® connects a driver’s need for the highest
performance standards with their desire for sensory comfort. Prestigious Car
designers such as Bertone, Italdesign Giugiaro and Pininfarina have each used
the material’s unique texture and flexibility to contribute to the innovation
of automotive design.
The proprietary production process of this unique material is
characterized by automation and constant control of all phases from spinning
to dyeing and is designed to reduce the impact on the environment by adhering
to a policy of eco-efficiency higher than that required by law.
New cars from DaimlerChrysler, Ford and GM offering special versions
featuring Alcantara® will be subsequently announced throughout the fall and
2007. Consumers can find out more about the models that will offer Alcantara® at
their local dealers. For more information and the latest news on Alcantara® visit
