Toray Ultrasuede and Intel Corporation Showcase
New "Ultrafashionable" Concept Laptops
Responding to research that shows today's consumers want more
"tote-able" and more "fashionable" laptops, Intel and Toray Ultrasuede
have joined forces to create concept laptop PCs that will be shown at the Intel
Development Forum in San Francisco, August 23-25, 2005.
Designed to inspire the computer industry to deliver innovations both inside
and outside their products, the new concept models change the look and, especially,
the feel of laptop PCs. The new concept model integrates Ultrasuede® fabric,
manufactured with proprietary Toray technology, into the chassis of an Intel® Centrino™ mobile
technology-based concept laptop PC. The result is what Intel and Toray Ultrasuede
are calling "a stylish mix of brains and beauty in one mobile package."
As warm and soothing to the touch as they are easy on the eyes, these new
concept laptops are designed to appeal especially to women, who today account
for at least 50 percent of new computer purchases. Sales figures from 2003 show
that women spend over $6 billion a year on computer products, and two-thirds
of women who say they check out other people's laptops report that they pay special
attention to the style and design of the computer*.
Ultrasuede is best known as a luxurious fabric for fashion and
interior design. Yet, as Des McLaughlin, Toray Ultrasuede Sales and Marketing
Director for Fashion and Industrial Departments, notes, "Ultrasuede is
increasingly popular as a high-performance molded fabric covering for everything
from cellphones to digital cameras. Besides looking and feeling beautiful, Ultrasuede
can in some instances actually improve technical performance thanks to its unique
properties."
Toray Ultrasuede works with high-tech designers and manufacturers
to provide solutions from the initial concept stage through to the production
process. Click here for more information on unique Toray Ultrasuede® technology
